Dayani sent me this photo of a worm that came out of Brownie:
We still cannot be sure what killed Brownie's three other siblings, but for now, we hope whatever medication the vet has prescribed Brownie would bring him to better health.
Brownie and his siblings, along with many other dogs, actually have an owner, but the owner does not seem interested in taking care of them. The dogs wander out the house compound and the owner had said she wishes the local council would capture them and solve her problem for her.
The other dogs also breed uncontrollably, so Dayani and Purna are now doing their best to get the owner's consent in getting the dogs spayed and neutered, and also, to treat the sick ones.
If have encountered quite a number of such cases where neighbours end up looking after other people's pets because the owners themselves do not really care. I've also had people writing to me asking for help because some owners ill-treat their pets.
Since we are not an authority to persecute others for animal cruelty (unless you wish to report this to the authorities, but the dogs might end up being euthanised once captured), I suppose the best way would be to do what Dayani and Purna are doing - stop expecting others to be what we think they should be. We do our part, within our capacity, for the sake of the animals.
It can be a cruel world out there, but we can still do our part.
