And how is Wii?

For the past 1-2 weeks, Tiger has been helping and supporting Wii.  Tiger goes out to the backyard and keeps Wii company.

Yesterday, Wii even had the courage to come into the kitchen and eat together with Tiger.

Tiger (left) and Wii.  Tabbies unite!

Here's Tiger, Teddybear and Peanut accompanying Wii as he eats up on his little platform.  Looks like Wii has a friend from each generation!

Oh give me a home, where the buffaloes roam...

And the deer and the antelope played...
Where seldom is heard, a discouraging word,
And the skies are not cloudy all day...

That's a song from my childhood - Home on the Range.

I wish I had a home on the range.  Then, I wouldn't have to work so hard at looking for adopters for all these rescued kittens on my hands.  I wouldn't have to worry about the dangers of fast vehicles too.

What is happening on the homefront?

I'll let the pictures tell the story...

Peanut is emulating Teddybear, and loves to copy what the elder one does.

She socialises with all the seniors.  Here she is with Indy Jones.

And with Tiger, too.

She prefers to mingle with Xiao Li and Teddybear.

Jelly prefers the biggest boss of 'em all, Bobby.  I'm convinced it's a colour thingie.

Jelly really had me worried for a few days ever since she had that injury on her paw pads.  Her appetite was badly affected as well.  Perhaps the pain on her paw pads made her lose her appetite.  This evening, she started eating again.  I was much relieved.

This is Butter, right after a meal.  He hangs out with Xiao Li sometimes, but normally prefers to be on his own.

Teddybear's fungal problem is improving day by day, with the ACV treatment.  Teddybear is the most loving and caring of them all.  He looks after the PBJs.  Whenever they venture out of the room, he would be following right behind.

Here's Xiao Li.  She has a bit of fungal spots on her face, but it's drying up with the ACV.

If only I had a home on the range, I wouldn't have to put Xiao Li and Teddybear up for adoption, but alas, I don't.  They are still up for adoption, but I would like them BOTH to be adopted together, please.  They have become the best of friends and one would be so lonely without the other.

Peanut eats with the elders.  Butter and Jelly still have to be hand-fed with moistened food.  When all three of the PBJs can eat on their own, the vet will take them back and put them up for adoption.

Oh, give me a home, where the buffaloes roam....

Thank You

Pawprints on My Heart - Revised Edition

The latest edition of my first book, Pawprints on My Heart, arrived yesterday, just two days after its second anniversary.

Pawprints was written on Earth Hour two years ago, in 2008.  It was the first time observing Earth Hour for me, and we had turned off all the lights.  Having nothing to do for a whole hour, I remembered I had promised some friends I would write my first non-academic book, so I sat down and started writing.

And that was how Pawprints got off the ground.

I would like to thank all sponsors for contributing to the printing of this new revised edition.  There are now another 3000 brand new copies that will be given out for free distribution.  With this new edition, there would be a total of 12,000 copies in circulation now.

If you have a copy of Pawprints, and have already read it, do please pass it on to a friend so that the message of kindness to animals can spread to more people.

The latest edition of Pawprints and one of its stars, Bobby.

Pawprints was my tribute to Earth Hour, 2008.

This new edition is done in a new layout, with pawprints walking across the pages.

An e-version of this book is available here for free download: https://sites.google.com/site/kindnesstoanimalsinc/pawprints-on-my-heart

Catching up with some news

Here's two pieces of good news to start off the day:

http://www.myanimalcare.org/2010/03/very-young-pregnant-cat-urgently.html
Jamie wrote yesterday to say that Trinley has found a home!  Her friend will take in Trinley and look after her and the kittens upon delivery.

http://www.myanimalcare.org/2010/03/request-to-help-entire-colony-of-cats.html
A very kind lady by the name of Roselin has stepped up to offer to fetch all of Loo's cats to our panel vet for spay-neuter.  Roselin will also foster the cats until they have recovered from the operation, and help get them adopted.  The first male cat will be neutered this Friday.

It is wonderful to know that we are able to work together to help the animals this way.

We are thankful for such blessings.

Have a good day!

A sharing on the ACV treatment

Vivienne Chew wrote to me, to share how ACV worked on her dog, Bear :

BEAR has been suffering from itchy, dry and irritated skin all the time ..is sad to see my dog non-stop scratching and licking his body most of the time!!
The vet i consulted also could not confirmed what kind of eczema it is..DR only give him a medication and injection,i really don't want my dog to take this drugs if possible...so i began to seach for some useful article online, than i see this~which say ACV may help to reduced doggie skin allergies problems, such as itching and rashes..
FYI..i used to mix 1 part of ACV with 2 part plain water to wipe the affected area with a facial cotton pad..twice a day..is always better to follow up with a olive oil or a baby lotion to soothing and calming the affected area.
Also..i only feed my bear a fish(SALMON) kibbles..brand such as..ORIJEN.ADDICTION.
I have been using ACV for about 2 months and i really see much improvement....he is a happy dog now ^^

Here are some photos from Vivienne:

I'm glad to know ACV worked for Bear.  His skin has definitely improved.

Thanks for the sharing, Vivienne.

Apple Cider Vinegar does work!

It's been almost about five days since I started applying Apple Cider Vinegar on Teddybear's fungal spots, and if my eyes aren't playing tricks on me, it seems to be working quite well.

Many of his fungal spots now appear to be normal.  I still apply ACV three times a day.

Xiao Li also had a few spots on the forehead, and I've been applying ACV as well.  The spots appear to be drying up too.

The spots are just above the eyes.

Both of them seem to be fascinated with the TV.

It must be all the interesting movements and the sounds.

Feels good?

The PBJs

I've been trying to teach the PBJs how to eat on their own, but I guess these things can't be rushed.  Yesterday, the slowest to learn everything, Butter, decided he would be the first to eat dry food on his own...

Hooray!

Next was Peanut, but she will only do it when an "elder" does it.  She likes to imitate what the elders do.

Jelly is still the baby and refuses the eat on her own.

I still hand-feed the whole gang, but Peanut and Butter are beginning to explore the possibility of eating on their own...slowly, in their own time.

I was down and out with a bad flu since Saturday, and it's been a great challenge looking after these three, along with Xiao Li and Teddybear.

This morning, Jelly gave me a fright as she starting limping.  She could not put down her left leg.  I took the whole gang to the vet this afternoon and upon checking, Jelly's paw pads appeared to be sore, especilly the left one.  The vet applied some cream and bandaged it.

I've removed the bandage now, and she seems a little better, but being "sick", she hasn't been eating much.  I guess the excitement at the vet's has tired her out.

Two cats spayed

Rani brought another two stray cats to be spayed under our sponsorship today.

This one is just done.  She has not woken up from the anaesthetic yet (note that the tongue is still out).

All set for surgery.

These cats will be returned to the alley where Rani will continue feeding them.  Rani is feeding quite a large number of cats in her alley.  We will help her with the spaying-neutering of the entire colony.

For every stray animal spayed-neutered, thousands of unwanted births (and deaths) would be prevented.

Please spay-neuter the strays.  Help keep their population under control.  Help prevent unnecessary deaths and untold suffering.

Visiting Bandit

On Saturday, I went to collect the cage from Wani since Bandit doesn't need it anymore.  Bandit has a new "security hide-out" now - inside Wani's sofa.

Hi, Bandit!

Bandit is very at home with Joned.  This is their hide-out.

According to Wani, Joned seems very happy to have a new brother and playmate.  In fact, Joned looks after Bandit very well.  He is always watching out for Bandit.  What a good "big brother"!

Bandit's appetite is also very good.  And the two of them share the litter box and food bowls.

Have fun, Bandit and Joned!

And be happy!

Faris rescues a cat

On Friday night, Faris text me to say he had rescued a cat and she seemed to be injured.  The cat, whom Faris called Liya, was brought to our panel vet for a check-up and found to have a broken leg.  The vet has put Plaster of Paris on the leg and now, we have to wait for the leg to heal on its own.

Faris will be nursing Liya until recovery and he will put Liya up for adoption after that.

Liya's treatment was under our sponsorship, and Faris will take care of her during recovery.

Working together for the animals!

P.S.  Faris will send the photos later.

This lovely photo is from Daniel.  Look at how big Simba has grown now.  He is very close to the "Datin", Bella.

Thanks for the photo, Daniel!

Going Green at IOI Boulevard

We were invited to participate in the Go Green Event at the IOI Boulevard this morning.  It was very much a greening-the-environment promotion, but since stray animals are very much a part of the environment, we were given a stall to promote what we do.

We'd like to thank the organisers for their kind invitation.

Go green!

Care for the environment,
Care for her lovely animals too.

Thank you, Monash Buddhist Society!

I would like to express our most deepest appreciation to the members of the Monash Buddhist Society for all the hard work they have put in to raise funds for AnimalCare.

To Carolina, Johnny Poh, Sumudu, Kumari, Edi, Jimmy, Lam, Amanda, Jane, Alex, Huiyuan, Zi Qin, Rifin, Wenny Halim, William Chiang, Brandon Choong, Hartanto, Fimtan, Aristo, we thank you very much for all the efforts put in.

These students had to attend class during the entire week, and yet they found time to juggle between their studies and doing this promotion for AnimalCare.

They would start the morning by collecting J.Co doughnuts from the outlet, then proceed to set up their stall.  After that, it's taking turns to man the booth for the entire day.  They also helped distribute Indy Jones, our brochures and sell our tshirts.  In these five days, they sold a total of 94 tshirts!

Here are photos of the team:

Thank you so much, Carolina and team!

May you all be blessed for your kind and noble hearts.

May all beings be blessed.

Julea is with Ebony now

I have sad news.  Julea passed away this morning.

We are so very sorry to hear this and we offer our deepest condolences to Ben and Adele.

To Ben and Adele: Please take comfort in knowing that some relationships are meant to be short.  Ebony and Julea's relationships with both of you were perhaps meant to be short, but all four of you were meant to connect, even if it was only for a short period.  Thank you very much for giving Julea and Ebony so much love and care during their short period on earth.  Their relationship with you may have been short, but it was filled with so much love.  That makes it special and meaningful, and worthwhile.

It is always a great challenge bringing home young puppies, what more when Julea and Ebony were rescued from the pound.  They probably already had some disease festering in them.  A vet was just telling me a few days ago that even pedigree puppies die from stress of going to a new home after a few weeks - he has seen many cases of this happening.

Ben and Adele had been so kind to give Julea and Ebony a loving home, despite knowing that they had come from less-than-ideal conditions, ie. the pound.

We are very thankful to Ben and Adele.

May Julea reunite with Ebony in a much better place now.

This is from Ben:

We are very sorry to inform you that Julea passed away this morning. As per my earlier email to you 2 days back, wed nite I fed her with Cesar. She ate about a thumb size of it. Thursday morning, I fed her again with Cesar. She ate a bit, then rejected the rest. Last nite, I fed her with cesar, pedigree, ID, all rejected. Then I just force fed her with milk added with Glucolin. I forced about 25 to 30 ml of milk + glucolin with a syringe.

I got up at 7:30am today and found she is motionless. Must have passed away during the nite.

I am very sorry I disappointed you as both the puppies I adopted back passed away. (It is nobody's fault, Ben.  We can only do our best, and leave the rest to destiny.  Please do not blame yourself.  I know you have done your best for them.)  My wife is so sad with Julea's passing that she cried all the way to work. She is extremely attached to Julea. Julea is buried next to Ebony in the space opposite my house. Since we do not have use for the cage, we have decided to give it back to you or anyone who is in need. We are too heart broken to adopt any more puppies for the time being. Just cannot bear with the loss of 2 puppies within such a short time.
I have attached some of the pics of Ebony & Julea taken during the short but happier times. Hope you will post it in memory of our beloved puppies.

Ebony and her beautiful eyes.

Julea, Ebony's sister.

May Julea and Ebony be happy now, on Rainbow Bridge!

Note: I have contacted the donor of the cage, and he has agreed that the cage be given to Meiji in Raub.  Meiji is looking after more than 100 dogs and needs many cages.
